Finding our way through the wilderness

Matthew 7:24-27
New International Version (NIV)
The Wise and Foolish Builders
24 “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. 26 But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. 27 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.”
Day Nineteen
Build your foundation on the Rock

I am not a carpenter, in fact when it comes to building things I am pretty much useless. However, even I know that when you are building something, like a house or a building, the most important thing is the foundation. You can have the best materials known to man and you can the world’s best architect sketch you a beautifully design, but all will be null and void if the foundation you build on is not stable. The house or building may look pretty and well put together, however when a storm comes it will not make it through.

Using this knowledge we can apply the same logic to our Christian lives. We need to make sure that our foundation is built on solid ground, so when the storms of life comes we will not be easily sway and we can stand firm until the storm passes. In order to do this we need to know where to build our foundation (our hopes, dream, and desires) so we can build a strong and lasting relationship with our Lord and Savior.

In the text from above Jesus is telling us where to build our foundation. He says “Therefore everyone that hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man that built his house on rock.” Notice that He says everyone that hears His words And put them into practice. Just hearing the word of God and not putting it into practice is making way for the enemy come interfere with our relationship with God. Because if we are reading the word but we are not putting it to action we will become like the second man that Jesus talked about in our scripture. This man built is house on sands so when the rains and winds came his house fell with a great crash. The enemy is looking for anything to bring distinction between us and God, so when we are easily sway by the storms of life he attacks.

However if we are like the man who built his house on the rock, whenever the rains and winds come the house did not fall. In other words whenever the storms of life come no matter how bad they are we will always come out of the other side still intact, because our foundation is on the Rock. The Rock is our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! Therefore the enemy can’t use the storm to separate us from God because we are rooted in Him.

This again comes when we not only hear, or read, the word of God but we put it into practice. As we start to routinely practice the word of God the stronger and stronger our foundation becomes. It is at that point we can start to build upon that foundation by witnessing, missionary work, and etc. But like the wise builder we have to start by laying our foundation on the Rock and Christ will take care of the rest of the building from there.

On a side note I wanted to say that I started to write on this topic for day one of our journey. Think that this would be the perfect way to start it off, however the Holy Spirit move me to do something different. So I waited until today to write on this because I feel like God is telling us that it is never too late to rebuild our foundation. If we started on sand we can move right over to the rock without worry. God wants us to know that no matter where we are in our walk with Him that it is never too late to lay our foundation on stronger and more stable grounds. For the enemy is always busy, but thankfully so is our Lord and as we know He has All Power in His Hands!

Please join us tomorrow as we continue our journey. Until then God Bless
